How could Dr.Koichi Yasuoka have found out the truth, that is "They are called upstrike typewriters and their typebars never jam." ?
I have found several jams and "battered"s and etc. around upstrike typewriters in 19th century or on upstrike machines.
- "In the event of the type-bars locking" on an article for typewriter instruction in 1892
- "the accidental jamming together of two type-bars" on patent document in 1895
We should discuss about the meaning of "jam or make out of order or collide or interfere and so on".
battered
- One letter new and unused, one showing one "scar" and one much battered.
- >Fig.202--Stereoscopic photo-micrograph of the faces of typewriter type, showing the effect of wear and accidents, by which the work from such a machine can be positively identified. One letter new and unused, one showing one "scar" and one much battered. Some detail is lost in the process of engraving. This illustration and the other stereoscopic views are printed on a detached sheet at the end of the book.http://www26.atwiki.jp/raycy/pages/245.html
